In mid-October, almost nothing worked in the Untereisesheim town hall. The municipal administration was the target of a cyber attack in which IT systems were encrypted and data was stolen from the servers, according to a recent report notice on the website. Accordingly, the investigations have now shown that parts of the stolen data were in Darknet landed.
Citizen data probably not affected
This should include, among other things, old personnel files as well as employee data and image drives. The town hall emphasizes that sensitive data from citizens is not affected. “According to current knowledge, no data from the central data center and the document management system has been published,” the statement says.
It goes on to say that no ransom was paid at the time. Instead, the municipal administration decided to work closely with the Baden-Württemberg Cybersecurity Agency (CSBW) and the State Criminal Police Office.
